Basketball is a sport in which two teams of five players compete against each other on a rectangular court. The objective of the game is to score points by shooting a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court. The team that scores more points wins the game. A basket is worth more points than a field goal if the basket is shot from inside the 3-point line. The game of basketball was invented in 1899 by James Naismith. The first game was played with two peach baskets and a soccer ball. A game of basketball is now a global sport, with elite players signing multimillion-dollar contracts and professional games being broadcast around the world. To pass a basketball, hold the ball in one hand, and with the other hand, pull the ball completely behind your head. Once you have done this, quickly bring the ball forward and release it. The ball should bounce three quarters of the way between you and your target, if this happens it is a good pass.
