Xavier is home to 19 intercollegiate teams, including basketball and volleyball at the Cintas Center. Other sports at Xavier include soccer, baseball, tennis, track and field, and cross country.
The university has a long tradition of success in men’s basketball. In the early years of the program, Xavier competed in the Midwestern City Conference, a conference that was the precursor to the present-day Horizon League. During this time, Xavier won two regular season and three tournament championships.
After moving to the Big East in 1998, Xavier climbed to national prominence under coach Thad Matta. He inherited a team that featured future NBA players David West and Lionel Chalmers, and the Musketeers won two Atlantic 10 regular season titles and made three straight NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure.
With a new season on the horizon, Xavier’s coach Sean Miller will have his work cut out for him. The Musketeers return just three starters from last year, and one of those — forward Zach Freemantle — hasn’t played a Division 1 game since January 28, 2023.
Xavier is giving fans an inside look at the season ahead with a docuseries that premieres Nov. 12. “ALL IN,” presented by TriHealth, will follow the team through summer workouts, fall practices, the regular season and postseason play to give fans a lens into what it takes to be successful in college basketball. The show will be modeled after the popular HBO series “Hard Knocks.”
