There’s a basketball hall of fame that recognizes the best players, coaches, and other people who contributed to the game. It covers pro, college, women’s, international, and more.
The process for getting into the hall of fame is pretty simple if you meet certain criteria. To be considered, you must have a significant impact on the sport of basketball. You also must be retired for at least five years and have the support of one of the Hall’s committees. The two committees are the North American and the Women’s Committees. The committees review candidates and select individuals to be voted on by the Honors Committee. A candidate must receive a majority of votes from the Honors Committee to be Enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
Once a person is inducted into the Hall of Fame, they become part of an exclusive group of people who are considered to be the very best in the sport. Typically, only the very best players, coaches, and other people who have contributed to the game get into the hall of fame.
This year’s class includes NBA legends Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol and Tony Parker along with WNBA champion and legendary coach Becky Hammon and former Minnesota Timberwolves center Manu Ginobili. They join coaches and contributors like Tim Hardaway, Swin Cash, Marianne Stanley, Lindsay Whalen, Theresa Shank Grentz and others who were part of the class that was inducted in 2022.
It’s a great group, but it could be even better next year when Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan are eligible. The class of 2024 could feature some of the best basketball players ever.
